Art in Public Places
St. Albert has been identified as being one of the best places to live in Canada. As part of the Alberta Capital Region, St. Albert is the community of choice for citizens and businesses because of exceptional programs and services, safety, amenities and the quality of life delivered its citizens.
Through its Art in Public Places Program, St. Albert's solidifies its unique position and fosters the image and identity of the City through cultural stewardship. The Art in Public Places Program is helping guide the evolution of a distinct and vibrant civic personality and creating a visual legacy for generations to come.
Public art evokes meaning in the public realm, by providing a visually rich and exciting environment, while playing a role in attracting creative businesses and workers, reflecting diverse cultural character and encouraging the growth, education, experience of "culturally educated" public.
Permanent Art Collection
The City of St. Albert has a Permanent Art Collection comprised of 223 pieces of artwork by Alberta and International artists. The City began its collection in the 1970s. The collection includes pottery, painting, sculpture and fibre arts pieces and most are on display throughout St. Albert Civic buildings.
Commemorative Plaque Program
The Commemorative Plaque Program offers the opportunity to honour the memory of friends, family and loved ones by offering plaques that can be purchased and installed in approved locations throughout St. Albert. The City has 10 opportunities for plaques per year. Installation of the plaques takes places between April and October.
Fee: $600.00 for a 5" x 7" bronze plaque and $800.00 for a 10" x 10" bronze plaque, which are then installed on bollards, city sidewalks or rocks (for an additional cost). Timing from plaque process to installation is approximately eight weeks. Commemorative plaques will be maintained as long as serviceable for up to 10 years.
