Established in 1861, St. Albert is steeped in history and is the oldest non-fortified community in Alberta. Today, St. Albert is a vibrant community with a population of more than 58,000 residents offering a rich arts and cultural scene, and plenty of recreational amenities.

About



St. Albert was founded in 1861 by Oblate Missionary Father Albert Lacombe and Bishop Alexandre Taché who discovered the land during a surveying trip along the Sturgeon River.  Both men knew immediately that this was the perfect site for a mission post and named the area after St. Albert the Great, patron saint of scientists and philosophers.

St. Albert offers some of the best attractions and events in Alberta's Capital Region. These include:  The International Children's Festival, the Rainmaker Rodeo, Rock 'n August, the St. Albert Botanic Park and a selection of outstanding Heritage Sites.
