Traffic Safety in St. Albert


Motor vehicle collisions are a leading cause of injury-related death and disability among Capital Region residents. Each year, there are approximately 25,000 collisions in the region and over one if four results in injury or death.  Also, every year two out or three injury collisions occur in intersections.
 
Did you know:
driving above the speed limit reduces driver reaction times accordingly. So, speeding can turn a preventable incident into a collision, resulting in injury and even death. Don't take chances - abide by posted speed limits.

Photo Radar

The City of St. Albert is one of nine communities in Alberta who use a photo radar system as a means of enforcing speed and reducing speed related collisions.


Intersection Safety

Red Light Cameras
Red light cameras help enforce traffic laws in our community by automatically photographing the license plates of vehicles whose drivers run a red light.
 

Intersection Speed
The City uses intersection speed technology to monitor and enforce speed laws at intersections.



Speed Awareness Program

Are you aware of your speed?  Maybe you've seen the City's speed awareness trailer in your neighbourhood. This is just one of the ways the City aims to raise awareness of the problem of speeding. Often speeding motorists are unaware they are exceeding the speed limit. 

Traffic Safety Partnerships

Through traffic safety partnerships and educating children about traffic safety, the City is proactive in promoting speed awareness.
