Swimmer Programs for School Aged 6+
These levels are the foundation for swimming skill development. They includes floating, rollovers, glides, kicking drills and the introduction to Swim to Survive skills. This level is for children 6+ years who have never taken lessons before or who have participated in Sea Cubs or Floating Frogs.
Swimmer 1 Beginner
These beginning
swimmers will work on safe entries, floats and moving through the water.
They'll explore working in deep water with PFDs and when ready will do
front and back floats without the extra support.
Swimmer 1 Advanced
This level is the
foundation for swimming skill development. It includes floating,
rollovers, glides, kicking drills and the introduction to Swim to
Survive skills.
Swimmer 2
These children
will be able to jump or roll into deep water, tread water and swim 10-15
metres using front crawl and back crawl. They'll learn whip kick and
begin to work on their endurance through interval training.
Swimmer 3
These swimmers
will dive and do forward and backward rolls into deep water. Watch them
learn front somersaults and handstands. They'll work on their front
crawl, back crawl and whip kick over short distances and endurance swims
of 10 - 15 m.
Swimmer 4
These swimmers
will swim 25 m and 50 m with their front crawl and back crawl. They'll
add standing dives and roll entries into deep water. Sprint training
will add to their fitness level.
Swimmer 5
These swimmers
will master eggbeater kicks, head up front crawl, breaststroke and
shallow dives into deep water. They'll easily make 4 x 50 m workout with
their efficient front crawl and back crawl.
Swimmer 6
These swimmers
will master the three lifesaving kicks: eggbeater, scissor, whip.
Interval training for breaststroke, front crawl and back crawl.
Lifesaving skills: stride entry, compact jumps and underwater swims. All
participants easily make the 300 m workout with their efficient front
crawl, back crawl and breaststroke.
Stroke Polishers
Stroke Polishing
is designed to allow time for comprehensive stroke development and
technique through drills, stroke correction, and practice. For students
who have attempted Swimmer levels.
Swimmer level Home School daytime programs are available on Wednesdays.
Rookie Patrol
Practices develop
fitness levels to meet a timed 100 m swim and 350 m workout. Water
proficiency skills include: swims with clothes, ready position, foot
first and head first surface dives. Rescue Breathing and initiating EMS
are included as first aid skills. Victim recognition and throwing
assists are other key elements of the program.
Ranger Patrol
Ranger Patrol
enhances capability in the water, including compact jumps from 1m
heights, lifesaving eggbeater kick and increased fitness levels to meet a
200 m timed swim. Rescue skills involve an increased skill level in ABC
first aid basics, victim recognition and non-contact rescues.
Star Patrol
An excellent
preparation for the Bronze Star award, Star Patrol demands good physical
conditioning and lifesaving judgment for timed 300 m swims, 600 m
workouts and 20 m tow with towing aid. Whistle signals, airway and
bleeding first aid priorities are taught.
Awesome Aquatic Assistants - Level 1
This program is
for 12-15 year olds who are interested in becoming Aquatic Instructors.
Under the guidance of an experienced Instructor, you will learn to
prepare lesson plans, teach swimming skills and evaluate students. This
class will consist of 45 minutes in the classroom and 1.5 hours of
assisting classes. This class is a pre-requisite for volunteering at
Fountain Park Recreation Centre.
Awesome Aquatic Assistants - Level 2
This will expand
on the skills you learned in level one. You will also learn stroke
correcting, giving specific feedback and teaching higher levels of
swimming. There will be 45 minutes in the classroom and then you will
assist two Swimmer classes.
Diving - 8+ Yrs
Learn tuck, pike
and layout positions and jumps. Participants must be able to swim 25 m
on their front and be comfortable in the deep end.
Snorkel - Skindiving Class - 8+ Yrs
What lies beneath the surface of the pool? We'll teach you how to look using masks and fins. You'll learn lots of fun entries into the pool. Participants must be able to swim 25 m on their front and be comfortable in deep water.
