Extended Process for Smart Growth St. Albert approved by Council - January 2010
On January 4, 2010 Council approved the following schedule. They have asked the Senior Leadership Team to review the Smart Growth St. Albert initiative, and work with Administration to bring forward a revised proposal.
- February 1, 2010: Package of background materials on Smart Growth to be presented to Council for receipt and referral to stakeholders.
- March 1, 2010: Council to receive Administration’s Smart Growth recommendation and refer them to stakeholders for comment.
- March 2010: Public meetings and open houses regarding Smart Growth concepts.
- April 6, 2010: Council to make decision regarding Administration’s recommendation of March 1, and direct that form-based regulations be created based on Council’s direction.
- May 3, 2010: Council to receive proposed form-based regulations, and refer to stakeholders for comment.
- May 2010: Public meetings and open houses regarding form-based regulations.
- May 25, 2010: Council to consider required bylaw amendments, if necessary.
Council also decided that at any of these steps, they could vote to completely discontinue the Smart Growth St. Albert initiative.
We would encourage you to submit your comments on the Smart Growth St. Albert initiative, as you have seen it to date, to Council by March 1, 2010.
Members of the public are also welcome to present their opinions and comments verbally to Council at the March 1, 2010 Council meeting. To do so, contact Legislative Services at 780-459-1500 to sign-up.
Smart Growth Economic Impact report (draft)- January 2010
Council received this report comparing the fiscal implications of Smart Growth versus Conventional approach to development in the annexed lands. Comments are welcome from the public about this report by March 1.
