Roles and Responsibilities for the City of St. Albert Cemetery
- Establish bylaw for cemetery operation
- Establish fees and charges for burial rights, opening and closing graves, installation of markers and vases, and liners
Cemetery Administration
- Maintain cemetery plots including seeding of plots and grave surfaces, re-seeding as necessary, cultivation, watering, seasonal cutting of grass and weeds, and keeping plots in neat condition
- Mount flat markers on cement bases at a fee paid by the owner and determined by City Council
- Remove plants, fences or things that are detrimental to adjacent lots or create an unsightly appearance
Cemetery Purchaser
- Care, maintain, upkeep, repair or replace any marker or vase placed in the cemetery.
- Provide a flat granite, marble or bronze marker inscribed with lettering of the owner's choice provided the inscription preserves the dignity of the cemetery
- May provide a vase with a concrete foundation to be recessed flush with the ground if it is separate from the flat marker
- Refrain from planting, installing or laying anything on any lot other than cut flowers or wreaths
- Remove all personal items from the graves annually by October 1st
Cemetery Visitors
- Drive at no more than 10 miles per hour (16 km per hour)
- Drive on the roadway and walk on the pathways
- Visit only during daylight hours
- Confine animals to vehicles
