Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)

St. Albert's RCMP

The RCMP, Canada's national police service, provides police service for the City of St. Albert. St. Albert's RCMP detachment is dedicated to ensuring St. Albert is a safe place. In fact, a recent cross-Canada study by Maclean's magazine showed St. Albert is the ninth safest city in Canada and the safest city in the West!

Among mid-sized municipalities (those with a population of 50,000-99,999), St. Albert has not only the lowest crime rate, but also the lowest per capita costs. The City also has more police officers per person in this grouping.

The St. Albert RCMP Detachment is committed to providing a professional police service directed at building a safe and caring environment through partnerships with our community. It provides general duty policing to the City of St. Albert and operates a Traffic Unit, a Crime Prevention/Victim Services Unit that includes a single profile drug dog and a General Investigation Unit.

Focus on the Community

The RCMP detachment is very active in the community. Their community initiatives include such programs as Victim Services, Citizens on Patrol, Block Parents, a School Resource Officer, Crime Stoppers, Bike patrol (in the summer months), Neighbourhood Watch and DARE. The RCMP also has a Community Policing office at Servus Credit Union Place.

To address the root causes of crime, the Detachment has adopted the Asset Development philosophy. It also has many programs in place related to community safety, from youth development initiatives to drug awareness programs and traffic safety programs.

Forty-seven members of the RCMP work in the St. Albert detachment, along with seven community peace officers, 23 support staff, and 100's of volunteers.
