Pest Control

What is a Pest?

A pest is defined in the Federal Pest Control Products Act as "an animal, a plant or other organism that is injurious, noxious or troublesome, whether directly or indirectly, and an injurious, noxious or troublesome condition or organic function of an animal, a plant or other organism."

Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

The City of St. Albert has developed its own IPM plan which is used to prevent and manage all pest problems within St. Albert.  It promotes healthy vegetation and guides pest control activities on all public land and within civic structures and facilities.

One of the goals of this policy is to keep pests at acceptable levels through effective, economical and environmentally sound methods.

Following this plan, the City's Pest Control program is largely reactive in nature monitoring pest populations and responding to concerns about pests on City property.  Pest Control crews at Public Works offers advice to residents that may be having a problem with pests on their property.  Pest control activities may include chemical treatments to reduce populations of some damaging pests to the removal or relocation of unwelcome animals.

For more information please download the City's IPM Plan and visit www.stalbert.ca/our-environment.
