Pay-As-You-Throw Improvements

Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT) is the City of St. Albert's garbage collection program. The PAYT program has been simplified to three volume levels: 1 bag every 2 weeks; 1 bag per week; and 2 bags or 1 can or 1 small toter per week.

Why?

  • To encourage waste reduction through reducing, reusing and recycling.
  • To simplify the PAYT program, as 80 per cent of St. Albert residents already meet 2 bags per week or a lower subscription level.
  • To encourage residents to lower subscription levels and avoid higher disposal costs through waste reduction.*

*In 2011, St. Albert's contracts with the current waste management contractor for collection and the West Edmonton Landfill for disposal will expire. As a result, the City is taking steps to encourage waste reduction through curbside recycling and avoid higher future costs to residents by implementing these changes now.

Tags do not expire, allowing residents to carry them over into subsequent years!

Please ensure you have your garbage out at the curb by 7 a.m. on your garbage collection date.
