Parks Litter

Through out parks and trails across the city, Public Works maintains over 354 waste receptacles.  In 2008, The City of St. Albert introduced a new waste initiative with the installation of in-ground parks refuse containers.  Since then, Public Works has installed 91 in-ground containers.  Currently, under the Parks Refuse Container Replacement Program, Public Works has planned to replace all the remaining standard containers over the next 12 years.

The new receptacles offer a cleaner and more efficient way to dispose of parks waste as they hold approximately 20 times more waste than that of the standard containers.  They also have a no spill top which does not allow for any displacement of refuse from animals or environmental concerns.

They City's standard containers continue to be emptied out weekly during the summer and every two weeks during the winter months.

Spruce Up St. Albert

Spruce Up St. Albert is a program offered to residents, groups and schools who want to help keep St. Albert looking its best.  Focusing on the spring, summer and fall months, schools can receive gloves and garbage bags to do a schoolyard and/or local neighbourhood clean-up.  Community groups and local residents can arrange to clean up any public space (park, playground, or boulevard) and are also eligible for gloves and garbage bags.

As a part of this program, the City of St. Albert partners with BLESS to host a one-day Clean Up The Sturgeon event in mid-May to clean up the Sturgeon River Valley.
