Parks & Open Spaces

Partners In-Parks

The Partners in Parks program is designed to get you involved in making St. Albert an even more beautiful place to live.  You can get involved as an individual, family, school or community group and commit to maintaining a flowerbed, a cul-de-sac, a bit of parkland or land along a roadway. For more information, contact Recreation Services at 780-459-1600.

Spruce up St. Albert

The Spruce up St. Albert program has three focuses throughout the year; in the fall, the City works with schools to clean up the yards and fields, in the spring and early summer, work is done with community groups and schools to help clean up areas in their surroundings.  Clean up the Sturgeon is a one day event for the community to assist in cleaning up the garbage that accumulates along the river during the year. For more information, contact Recreation Services at 780-459-1600

Naturalization

The City of St. Albert is committed to recognizing, protecting and restoring the natural areas in our community.  Many efforts have been made to augment these natural areas by introducing native trees and shrubs.  In other areas the City is looking to increase the size of the edges of the forest.  The City is also looking to create meadows where they will compliment the landscape and provide ecological services such as stormwater collectors, air cleansers or wildlife habitat.  Naturalization has become an important part of urban design and improves quality of life.  For more information, contact the Office of Environment at 780-459-1600.

River Edge Enhancement Project (REEP)

The City of St. Albert along with volunteers from the community, experts in river habitat restoration and the Big Lake Environment Support Society are working towards restoring river shore habitat by planting trees and shrubs to provide food and shelter for a variety of birds and small mammals. For more information, contact the Office of Environment at 780-459-1735.
