The City of St. Albert Public Works staff will begin flooding the outdoor rinks as soon as the weather and temperatures permit. The Outdoor Rink season begins once the ice is safe and generally runs from December 15 to February 15. The lights will be turned on when the surfaces are ready and safe for use. Rinks are considered closed when temperatures reach -23°C.

The supervised hours of outdoor rinks with change buildings is Wednesday to Friday 2 p.m. - 10 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday 1 p.m. - 9 p.m. Maintenance of ice surfaces with change buildings occurs during supervised hours, approximately between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Maintenance of the ice surfaces without change buildings takes place one surface at a time, Monday to Friday approximately between 8 a.m. - noon, weather permitting.  Rinks are not cleared on Saturdays and Sundays.  No supervision is provided at outdoor rinks without change buildings.

Maintenance of the Lacombe Park Lake will commence only when there is a safe thickness of the ice. Lacombe Park Lake and Kingswood Oval are not supervised. 

Heritage Lakes Park Pond is not a safe surface for skating and is not cleared by City staff. 

The St. Albert schools utilize the rinks and under the terms of the Reciprocal Agreement, they have first priority during the school day.

When you are skating on these outdoor surfaces, consider these safety tips:

•  These sites are natural ice surfaces and injuries can occur due to ice conditions and natural and unnatural hazards such as uneven surfaces, cracks in the ice, holes, rocks, weather conditions and other skaters.
  
• Please note that most surfaces are not supervised. Skaters use these surfaces at their own risk. Please check the ice each time before you skate.
  
• It is recommended you skate with a partner and dress appropriately for the weather.
