Father Lacombe Chapel

Mission Hill, St. Vital Avenue

Sitting on top of Mission Hill is the oldest building in Alberta -- Father Lacombe Chapel.  A Provincial Historic Site, the chapel marks the beginning of St. Albert's history, dating back to 1861 when Father Albert Lacombe established an Oblate Mission along the Sturgeon River.

Open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., May to September, Interpreters can take you on a tour of the chapel, the crypt where Father Lacombe, Bishop Grandin and Father Leduc rest, and the grotto and cemetery where you may recognize many of the names of St. Albert's founding families.  Admission by donation.
