Fowler Athletic Park is an ideal spot to practice track and field events such as long jump, high jump and hammer and discus throw. The refurbished track is a prime location for runners training for short or long distance events. Fowler Athletic Park is named after former St. Albert Mayor, Richard S. Fowler, and opened in 1979 as part of the Alberta Summer Games. Fowler Athletic Park is a municipal facility that is included under the joint use agreement. The facility is utilized by the schools, local organizations and the general public. It is also the home of the St. Albert Track and Field Club. The facility went under a major refurbishment in 1999. The project encompassed the resurfacing of the 400 metre track as well as enhancements to the track drainage, infield regrading, refurbishing the hammer and discus throw area, refurbishing long jump runs and high jump apron, enhancing spectator viewing and time keeper areas. Refurbishment of the track surface is scheduled for July 22 to be reopened September 1st. The track & field area will be closed to the public during construction, until completion.
