 2. Boarding the Bus Safely 4. Leaving the Bus

Getting Information

  • Clink on the following link to access our current Routes, Maps and Schedules, plus up-to-date information on special events and service changes.  We also have travel advice to help you plan your journey, just follow this link to Trip Planning Tips.
  • Pick up a 'Ride Guide'.  This contains current schedules, route maps and travel information and is available from our Ticket outlets and on StAT buses.  Please help the environment and save resources by keeping the same Ride Guide for the entire season.
  • The route maps show our bus routes and where to connect onto other routes.  Select your most convenient bus stop.  The schedules will help you to estimate the time that the bus will arrive at your stop.
  • If you plan to travel regularly, you can save money by purchasing a book of tickets or a bus pass.  See Fare Information for prices and sale locations.
  • If you require further advice please call our Customer Service Office at 780-418-6060 to speak with one of our transit travel advisors.  Phone lines are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday (excl. Stat. Holidays).  Before you call, please have the following information ready: the starting location for your journey, your final destination and the time that you either wish to start or complete your journey.

Boarding the Bus Safely

  • Bus stops are marked with blue and white signs.  In St. Albert and Morinville these are labelled "˜Transit Zone'.  In Edmonton our buses stop at selected ETS "˜Bus Stops'.
  • If you choose to Park & Ride at the Village Transit Station (VTS), please comply with the parking signage.  There is no parking for Transit patrons at St. Albert Centre Exchange (SACE).
Please ensure that you allow plenty of time to board your bus safely.
  • We suggest being out at your Transit Zone five minutes early or at the time that the bus is scheduled to leave the preceding timing point (whichever is earlier).
  • For safety reasons, passengers will not be picked up after doors are closed and the bus leaves the curb at VTS and SACE.
  • Stand so you are visible to the bus driver.  If you're waiting in a bus shelter, step outside well before the bus approaches.
  • When a bus approaches your stop, read the screen above the windshield to check the route number and destination.  If it's not your bus, please help the driver by stepping back from the stop or shaking your head.
  • Wait for the bus to stop completely, then step to the curb.  Please allow passengers to leave the bus before you board.
  • Most of our buses can "˜kneel' to curb level for easier access.  If you require this feature, please advise the driver.
  • Most StAT buses are wheelchair accessible.
  • You have several convenient ways to pay for your bus ride.  If you're paying cash, please have the correct fare ready, as drivers do not carry change.  Alternatively, you can buy a pass or book of tickets in advance.  As you board, put your ticket or cash fare in the farebox or show the driver your pass.  When boarding, please ask the driver for a transfer if you need to use another bus to get to your destination.

Safe and Considerate Travel

  • Please take a seat.  If the bus is busy, please make room for others by storing bags on your lap or in the luggage space provided.
  • We strive to provide a level of service that avoids our passengers having to stand.  However, if the bus is crowded please offer your seat to seniors or those less mobile and hold on to the handrails or overhead rails firmly.
  • StAT makes every effort to provide clean and comfortable buses - please help us by not dropping litter or placing shoes or other dirty items on the seats.
  • Please be considerate to other passengers by keeping headphone volumes low (so others can't hear) and cell phone calls quick and quiet.  For the safety of all passengers the driver must be able to hear their 2-way radio.  Smoking is not allowed on StAT buses or in shelters.
  • Please advise the driver if the temperature on the bus is too warm or too cold.
  • Strollers can be taken on the bus.  Please position the stroller so that the aisle is not blocked, with the child facing backwards and the brakes applied.  An adult should also hold the stroller with one hand in case of sudden stops / turns.
  • Sorry, you cannot take your bicycle on StAT buses.  However, a bike rack is provided at the Village Transit Station.
  • Guide dogs are allowed to ride free on StAT, all other animals are not allowed.
  • Listen to your driver and follow their instructions in the event of an incident or an emergency.

Leaving the Bus

  • Stay alert during your ride so that you know when your bus stop is approaching.  If you're not sure where to get off the bus, then sit close to the front and ask the driver for assistance.
  • Pull the cord that runs above the windows approximately one block before you reach your stop.  This rings a bell to alert the driver.
  • Wait until the bus comes to a standstill.  Exit the rear door by pressing the yellow bar to open the door.  If you exit from the front door, please advise the driver if you require the "˜kneeling' bus feature to be activated.
  • Ensure that you take all your belongings with you and watch out for icy conditions or sidewalk obstructions when you exit the bus.
