Application Deadline - October 2012
The Environmental Advisory Committee and the City of St. Albert are now accepting applications for the Environmental Initiatives Grant Program. Please note the following amendments to the Environmental Initiatives Grant Program Policy that will affect future applicants:
Number of Grant Allocations per Year
- Grants will now be allocated once annually, as opposed to twice each year.
Eligible and Ineligible Expenses
- Applications that include expenses for beautifying property will not be considered.
- To ensure the long-term success of planting projects, native plants must be used.
-
Although funds are not used to offset operating costs, operating costs that include a short-term demonstration project will be considered.
| Frequently Asked Questions |
Answer |
| My neighbors and I have put together a plan to enhance our neighborhood park. Are we eligible for funding? |
Yes, however you are required to consult with the Office of Environment when preparing your application to ensure your group's plans are in line with the policies. |
| We have a project that is ongoing for a number of years. Can we expect to get the grant again if we apply again? |
Long-term projects are supportable on an annual basis but there is absolutely no guarantee of funding. As a rule of thumb, preference will normally be given to new project ideas. |
| We wish to ban the use of chemicals of a certain kind and wish to mount a campaign to educate the citizens of St. Albert on the negative effects of these chemicals. Can we apply to fund our communications program? | Citizen awareness is important but there are many means already available to raise issues and concerns including letters to the editor and presenting to City Council. This type of program is not the intent of the grant program. |
| Our group received an Environmental Initiatives Grant from the City last year. Are we eligible to apply this year? |
Yes, provided you have completed and submitted the required documentation. |
For project ideas visit the Ecokids Challenge website or Grant Recipients page.
Prior to submitting an application, applicants must review EIGP Administrative Procedures and City Council Policy.
