Branches

The Capital Projects Office is responsible for initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and closing of capital and operational projects from conception to completion. Projects range from all new construction to renovations or improvements to existing infrastructure such as roads, utilities, buildings and other facilities.

The Infrastructure and Capital Planning Branch is responsible for the strategic level management of all infrastructure owned by the City.  This includes infrastructure planning to support growth, changes in demographics, changes in the levels of service and development while continually addressing the requirements of our current infrastructure. The use of modelling programs, infrastructure management programs, the review of historic data, the continuing collection of current data and current inventory data all increase the knowledge and understanding of the requirements needed for a sustainable future.

Infrastructure includes roads, sidewalks, trails, stormwater network, wastewater network, water distribution network, buildings, bridges, traffic signals and parks.

The Transportation Branch works to provide a safe, reliable, and efficient transportation system that supports all modes of travel and user groups and promotes sustainability within the active community of St. Albert.  This area deals with traffic signal operations and maintenance, line markings (including the placement of pedestrian crosswalks), traffic signage, traffic counts and reporting, large load permitting and truck routes, pavement management, and construction detours.

The Urban Development Branch manages the review process for land development applications.  This process identifies all municipal infrastructure requirements associated with roads, utilities, storm drainage and landscaping.  This branch provides comprehensive reviews of engineering drawing submissions, provides construction supervision and is responsible for the infrastructure off-site levies for future developments.  The Urban Development Branch is also responsible for the development and revision of the Municipal Engineering Standards.
