Council Policies

The Municipal Government Act (MGA) of the province of Alberta creates the framework for any "laws" that the Council of the City of St. Albert makes. The City of St. Albert is required to adopt a Municipal Development Plan. The Plan takes precedence over any other form of "laws" with the exception of the MGA. City Council must also adopt bylaws on matters prescribed in the MGA. City Council may adopt policies or delegate policy making powers on particular matters to administration.

City Council has approved policies on topics over which Council must exercise governance powers. While many policies have been approved, the City is continually developing policies. In the folders listed here, you will find the policies that have been adopted and blank folders in which policy development is ongoing.

Below are the City Council policies that have been adopted to date. Please visit City Bylaws for additional "laws" of the City of St. Albert.

Bylaws, policies, and other documents are updated from time to time. The documents that appear on this site may not reflect recent policy approvals. Please contact Legislative Services at 780-459-1500 for the most recent version of any City bylaws or policies.
