Cemetery Standards for the City of St. Albert

Engraving and purchasing of markers will continue to be a transaction conducted between the client and the monument company.  The City of St. Albert will add a standardized cement base to each marker on installation.  Marker with smooth edges require holes for rebar every 8".  The City of St. Albert, Public Works, Cemetery Operations department must be notified a minimum of 24 hours prior to delivering marker, niche doors or when scheduling the engraving on the Memorial Wall.

Standard Plot Markers

Standard plots will accommodate standard marker dimensions of 30" by 18".  There may be up to two markers on any standard plot: a foot marker and a head marker.  

Side-By-Side Plots

The City of St. Albert will allow a single marker centered across the two plots with a maximum  dimensions of 42" by 18".

Ash Plot Markers

Each ash gravesite is 48" by 48".  These will accommodate markers of 39" by 18".

Ash Cremains Plots

Ash cremation plots can accommodate four urns of less than 16" in diameter, two urns if housed in vaults.  Plots allow for four urns of less than 16" in diameter.  We will be advising our clients of these dimensions and advising them that an ash plot cannot accommodate containers larger than 16" in diameter or 20x20".  Ash plots that have a marker installed prior to burial services will accommodate a maximum of two urns

Casket and Ash Urn Vaults

Casket Vaults purchased from sources other than the City of St. Albert will be installed by, and at the cost of , the supplier.  We will advise our clients that Ash Urn Vaults are not required nor recommended within our cemetery, the urn by itself is sufficient containment.  Vault dimensions will be required by the City of St. Albert and they will not exceed 48"x96" for a Casket Vault, or 20"x20" for an Ash Urn Vault.

Memorial Wall

The back of one columbarium has a solid granite wall for engraving the names of loved ones whose ashes may be scattered at the base of the Columbarium or interred elsewhere.  The standards for engraving on the memorial wall are:
