Akinsdale-Kinex Arenas to Receive Federal Funding

January 19, 2010 – Today, local Member of Parliament Brent Rathgeber announced $116,000 in funding for the Akinsdale and Kinex Arenas in St. Albert.  Federal funding for this investment is being provided under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

“This important investment will have a positive impact on St. Albert.  This project will create immediate jobs and improve these arenas as community gathering places,” said Rathgeber.  “Arenas like these are the building blocks of our community and I am proud to announce this significant investment.”

This funding is directed towards building new dressing rooms, improving existing dressing rooms, adding storage space to players boxes and expanding the foyer in the Kinex Arena. Access to the Akinsdale Mezzanine will also be improved to meet safety standards.

“The City of St. Albert welcomes these improvements to the Akinsdale and Kinex Arenas as they will benefit residents and enhance the recreational sport opportunities in our city,” said Mayor Nolan Crouse. “We look forward to the completion of these enhancements, which will ensure these facilities continue to be well used in our community.”

“Working alongside Mayor Crouse and the City of St. Albert, our Government has delivered the necessary upgrades to this facility.  I look forward to this newly renovated arena being a staple of our community for many years to come,” said Rathgeber.
