ST. ALBERT FIRE SERVICES CELEBRATES 100 YEARS
The City of St. Albert’s Fire Services Department marked the beginning of its 100th Anniversary by unveiling a new commemorative crest and announcing a year of celebrations that will raise the department’s profile in the community.
Activities include participating in the Olympic Torch Relay celebration, the Northern Alberta International Children’s Festival, the Rainmaker Rodeo Parade and several other events; as well as hosting the annual open house with a historic theme; and coordinating a centennial mass celebration.
“The City of St. Albert is very proud to celebrate our Fire Services Department,” said St. Albert Mayor Nolan Crouse. “Throughout their 100 years of service, past and present members have displayed a commendable level of commitment and dedication to keeping our community a safe place to call home.”
Since 1910, Fire Services has saved lives and protected properties by responding quickly and effectively to suppress fires and provide medical and rescue attention in emergency situations. The department also strives to educate residents about fire prevention and participates in several charitable endeavours, from Operation Christmas Child to the Firefighters Burn Society.
“Our department is looking forward to celebrating our history throughout the year with St. Albert residents,” said Fire Services Chief Ray Richards. “Fire Services is proud to play a part in preserving our community’s safety and well-being and is eager to continue its long-standing tradition of excellence in serving the citizens of St. Albert.”
Fire Services has evolved significantly since its inception, from maintaining a base of volunteer firefighters to becoming an integrated emergency services provider. In the spring of 2009, the City announced that it would partner with the province on a new service delivery model. See additional details about Fire Services 100th Anniversary here.
